mofome, The Shrink, and the future of eog

Re: mofome, The Shrink, and the future of eog

Has EOG thought about going with the SBRforum dot com way of generating income? While none of us like touts, maybe a forum homepage to help bring in more income.
While in CR last year most books were already taking in much less money. Now that has steadily gone downhill. Isn't cutting the overload of mods, better than cutting a serious contributor like Jake?
When do you see the industry coming around? My thoughts are late 09'.
When is it the right thing to do, to pay top cappers(even 50.00 bumps) to continue to post their plays at the site(ex. ACE ACE at the rx, even though he's terrible)?
Is SEO being invested in? If so is it being done as a #1 priority to help in bringing in new bettors via the search engines?
Why no land based marketing, like t-shirts, ball caps and maybe coasters at certain local bars? I got a shirt once this place finally opened, but nothing since then, and my eog shirt has seen it's better days, although was asked last week about it in the grocery store. Thanks.

Bump in case Shrink was out to dinner.

What is EOG's target demographic? As an older member, I was wondering what the direction of the site would be. Is there a chance that serious gamblers like me will be pushed out? I'm not even sure there is a demographic for websites, seems to me that more is always better and the tent better be pretty big. However, I have had private conversations with posters who feel EOG is more suited to agenda-driven personalities, and that if you don't bring any controversy, your value is not seen. This was addressed some time ago when Ken put out a thread asking 'would you want every poster to be like Munson?' I'm not suggesting that would be a good idea, but it is necessary to let the 'meat and potatoes' posters know that there will always be a place for them here.

Whatever happened to the Devil? I miss Fred, and even if he has moved to another site, is there a reason that he NEVER posts here? I really enjoyed his banter.

the goal, for me, is serious sports/handicapping people of all ages. the peolpe i generally talk to come here for capping and sports. people go off on different tangents at times, but the people are here for capping. fact is, there isnt a way to talk capping all day every day, so other things come up. im not a fan of the drama threads, but some see value in them and thats fine. perhaps we could have a forum where every sports/capping thread was copied and that way people could look at a main forum that had no nonsense on it. fact of the matter is, there are slow times and a lot of strong personalities, but the target is hardcore sports/capping guys/gals.

people like you will never be pushed out. nor will people like tim or AA.

Thanks, coming from you, that carries some weight, and makes me more comfortable. And no, I am not advocating a separate forum. I have no trouble managing to find what I need. The only problem I ever have is that with so many threads not being sports related, they move quickly to the next page and oblivion. I understand that is a good thing in some respects, and I acknowledge there are slow times in the sports/betting world. :cheers

As a nobody on the site, I'll put it out in the open. I couldn't tell you 5 solid cappers here. Sad, because I can tell you all of the people with an agenda. Shrink wants that in his main forum.

I remember when he started this site. He wanted to be a cross between the Rx and Covers. When it started off slow, he let all the members from the Rx he banned join. What was the one thing they all had in common? They hated the Rx. After General and Dirty left and Mo came over, the site changed. Far more younger crowd now. I feel there are a few too many here with some gimmick or agenda.

Munson, I would take a whole board of posters like you instead of going thru threads of "McDonalds vs Burger King".

Why do posters sweat out sides and totals instead of scalping for consistent winnings?

I appreciate the kind words, but I imagine it takes a lot more than us oldtimers who only know sports history and who's getting how many points on Sunday to make a site prosper. We lost a lot of average joes with the Janunary 2007 shakeout, my only regret is that I wasn't here for the good old days. There probably aren't enough 'Jagermeisters' and 'Munsons' to keep a site alive, I figure. But I can tell that the people at the top really care about the product, and I have been made to feel welcome by 99.9% of the members on this site, including the brass, which I truly appreciate.

munson, this is a handicapping board and ken and i are both passionate about this industry. hes worked in it for many many years and ive moved to texas to work in it. to keep a forum busy all day, year round, you're going to have some other topics floating around, but those shouldnt dominate the site. Eog has b/w 2 and 4 times as many posts on different days as it did at this time last year, there are more people sharing and there is more going on. lots of it is capping related, but some seem reluctant to jump into capping threads with some of the new guys. some of these people are very very bright cappers like bigO, timely, quebb, rjt, la teasers and others. these people are here for capping first and there is no close 2nd.

the head of eog is, obviously, the shrink. This is a guy who has given a large part of his life to the industry, a guy who has many contacts in the industry, a guy who revolutionized the forum world, and a guy who this weekend will be on the radio in vegas. with him as the leader of the site, never doubt what eog is and always will be about. people dont love this stuff more than he and i do. people dont love this more than you, osu, and aa do. people dont love this more than timely, quebb and rjt do. we have a lot of great posters and a great mix, its all about getting the best out of the majority more often than not.

very much so. as i alluded to in my note to the forum, i respect everyone here more than words allow me to say. we need to get this thing moving in the right direction together. together we can make this place as successful as possible, there is no room for individual agendas, its about our group.

when i used to post i didn't realize there were forums that people worked for. i used to post on freewinners.com and it was a great time and a great forum. that owner had/has a huge coke problem and he really let the place go to shit. dirty told me that the general helped him get a job here and i came here. i that point i realize people could make money posting/moderating, but i didnt have much interested in that part of the forums back then. as i got to learn more and more about the forums, my interest grew a bit but i really never had much of an erge to work for a forum, i never asked anyone for a cent or a chance to work. at one point i was going to open my own forum with a bud who was going to sell picks, but he really didnt follow through much and i just let that go. whenr reagan gave me the chance to have the sports forum on ogd, i knew i wanted to lead something my way and spend a ton of time with the guys on whatever board i was working on. i love the contests and talking games with everyone. i love trying to get people involved and i embrace the chance to help when i am asked for something. i will do this for as long as i am able. im sure most people make more money than i do, but not many people love what they do half as much as i do. thats a different kind of freedom provided to me. This industry is where my love/interest lay and i get to work with/for the biggest name in it. Doesnt get a lot better.

mo - since you were brought on after all the mod and paid poster hires without naming names would you have hired the same crew?

Also who would you have liked to give a job to if you could have hired the staff?

if i was hired as head mod, as soon as i came from eog, eog had no mods, and i was asked to name the mods? hell no i wouldn't have hired the same people. i thought ego and blondie were ridiculous hires at the time. i didnt know anything about them and i thought ego was a kiss ass. i had no clue what blondie could do. ffw to today, im humbled to work with them each. not just to work with them, but they are great friends of mine. really fucking awesome people that i would do anything for. people that do more on this forum than i can.

guys like teazeman, hinesward, quebb, dsethi, patterson, munson, gyno, raiders, and a few others were people i liked when i first came over in June.

Have you ever thought about using your contacts in the industry to possibly work/assist/learn the sportsbook side first hand whether by working directly for, or owning a sportsbook in the future? Why, or why not, would you like to work/own a book?
