Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak conceded Wednesday that Chris Carpenter's current neck issue appears similar to the nerve-related condition that he has dealt with in previous seasons.
The Cardinals recently expressed relief that Carpenter didn't have nerve damage after he was diagnosed with a bulging cervical disc, but it's clear that the issue is more serious than initially believed. The 36-year-old right-hander previously dealt with nerve issues in 2004, 2008 and 2010. He consulted Wednesday with the specialists he visited following the 2008 season, but the option of surgery was rejected. It's not clear what the next step will be, but he's highly unlikely to be ready for the early part of the season. Lance Lynn will take his spot in the rotation for now.

He can, I guess. He wanted it through already (as do i) in case someone gets hurt today we dont want to have a problem.
Beltre, Garcia, Danks for M.Young, Ervin, Peavy (ugh)
I don't like losing 2 quality arms, and i really like Beltre this year, but to me Ervin was best player in deal. I've been trying to get Ervin from TTP ever since the draft. Think he can be a 17/18 game winner with run support and getting to face Oak and Seattle a lot. M. Young is just a solid and consistent producer. I like that he should become eligible for MIF by June?
He can, I guess. He wanted it through already (as do i) in case someone gets hurt today we dont want to have a problem.

Oh thank god. Boss tells me walking out the door yesterday that I had to come in at noon, but still close - nice 13 hour day. Calls me this morning and says don't come in until 3. :lock:
Only a 10 hour day now. The 3rd in a row, work sucks.
Tegs, there's zero chance you won't trade Hosmer at some point this year. Also, thinking about keepers this early on in the season is a bit nutty, don't you think? Nice to see you're already conceding though.

While the team is being quiet about any updates on Carpenter's status, a club source told the Post-Dispatch that what he's hearing about Carpenter's neck "isn't good."
Analysis: The news for Carpenter, who could have a potential nerve issue, keeps getting worse. The more tests they do, the worse off he seems to be. and yeah saw that earlier timely, was tough for me not to undercut those deal talks and tell tegs Freeman has 0 trade value. Can't believe he almost gave up hosmer for him after just dealing teix for hosmer. :shoot:
