so this douche bag tells me sitting next to me at the blackjack table. (as he bets 2 $100 hands throughout, splitting 10's). so do I
You shouldn't split tens but the reality is if someone's doing it at the table it has no bearing on what you should be doing. You can put the biggest idiot in the world at your table and he's no more or less likely to help/hurt you in winning. Never get a square to understand that though. If they lose they now have someone to blame for it, nothing makes for a better target than someone less skilled then we are.

Solid post. It still aggravates me to see people do it, not because of any effect on my hand (ridiculous), but because it's so stupid.
Very true. Not that it matters to how we'll end up, just upsets me someone that ignorant is taking oxygen.:LMAO
It is easy to fall into that trap, I hated going with my ex. Taught her basic strategy and she thought her last name was Hoyle. I watched once, the guy she was complaining about (and yes he was an idiot) actually helped her about 4 hands in a row. I saw it, I was standing behind her. On the 5th time he did something stupid, he took a card that would have helped her, she went ranting and raving about it. What about the previous 4 times?
We all fall victim to selective memory a bit. If it helps we forget it, if it hurts we never forget. Sort of like changing boxmen (or dice), if the next roll is bad the superstitious people will jump and down saying they told us so. If its a good roll they quickly forget about it. Trying to convince someone of this that doesn't want to believe it is a lifelong pursuit. I suggest a hobby or two instead. And don't forget selective memory here in the sports betting world, it's all over the forums on a daily basis.
If the count is high enough, splitting tens is the correct move. I personally have never seen anyone do it for that reason
You've learned a few things in your twilight years.........this is the table equivalent of a college football teaser. That's the most puzzling thing about the randomness of gambling. Four zillion books explaining the right way to do it. Not one of them can explain to me why a bonehead play next to me always seems to win.
LOL.

Basic Strategy: never do it.
Card counter: works at extreme counts.
BJ pros do it at non extreme times, but it only works until the pit boss gets a look at your photo on file. :shoot:
Yep. I remember seeing a guy split 10s and it drew quite a bit of attention from the pit. Seems like the REAL pros wouldn't split 10s for that reason

True, other players bad play only bothers you when you're losing, but when you're down, and have a big bet out, and "need" this win, and some knob costs you the hand that you were "supposed" to win, it's pretty damn hard to just let it go.I am amazed at the amount of smart people who don't "get" this
So if you're playing at a table (1 deck) where the dealer is showing a 3, 4, 5, or 6 and everybody is showing low cards and the guy next to you is showing a 13 and he hits it doesn't affect you?
The odds that a 10 is coming is increased (not by much, but it is a % higher)
The odds that the dealer has a 10 under the low card is also increased.
So all of you think it doesn't matter if the players who are showing a 12 through 16 take a card?
No wonder very few of you think gambling can't be beat.
:LMAO
Of course it matters, on that hand the dope can and will effect the outcome, over the long term however, it will even out and other players play, whether good or bad, will not matter. So if you're playing at a table (1 deck) where the dealer is showing a 3, 4, 5, or 6 and everybody is showing low cards and the guy next to you is showing a 13 and he hits it doesn't affect you?

I've repeated that many times but it falls on deaf ears.......

So whats your point? That was an extreme example, but it does show you that other players CAN affect your play.
op:
I agree that it's best to get up and leave, but good luck finding a table where everyone "knows how to play".No it doesn't even out because I get up and leave...again and again and again every time it happens so are you telling me to stay and sit with some dipshit because his stupidity will even out? I'll pass....

Ever notice how you sit down at an empty table so you can play fast and alone, and pretty soon the tables full? You must not have been to Las Vegas lately.
Empty tables are everywhere.
