20-30% holds against you. Probably better off going to the keno parlor.
You know Bill, one big indicator that I have noticed over the years, behind the counter is this:
The big sports bettors that win, they are generally friendly but not too friendly. Like yourself. They don't brag. They come in, make their bets. They take it to the bank. They don't assume anything about me because they know they've seen me around for decades and they know they see me sending it across the counter at other sports books.
But the horse bettors, be it with big or small money, they say stupid stuff like "you know kid, one day, you'll get a clue, and be as smart as me" or "this ain't like the track, there they know what is going on, did you just start yesterday or what?"
You get the idea.
At least in my experience, with the thousands of degenerate horse players that have passed through my life, pony bettors have no idea what I know or don't know. Also, they never figure out that I've been in this business a long time, because they don't pick up clues from their environment. That's because they are just gamblers. They are not advantage players. They don't ever view anything in terms of "is this a good gamble or do I have an overlay here?"
They are betting horses to "have action" and they are only kidding themselves that they are in this game to make money.
Perhaps there are guys with inside information, perhaps the guys at the track with contacts make money, but the degenerates that hang out in off-track betting outlets are not winning long term.
