felicia a better singer/performer than all the girls left

Re: American Idol 2009- Season 8 Thread and Discussion

BG,
no odds for tonight, but a few juicy odds to win after she didn't make it through the first time. Some of us may have a dollar or two on her at a nice price.

Re: American Idol 2009- Season 8 Thread and Discussion

And now the twist....see back a page.

Diversity slots properly filled, check.

Your wildcards:
Megan
Jasmine
Matt G.
Anoop.

It's the first ever top 13...biggest Idol finals ever(Seacrest hyperbole and mathematically accurate, 13>12).

Shit, bunch of, is this, yoda say.

Obviously she doesnt have the voice Adam, Danny or Lil have but she has such a sexiness to her, that she is almost IMO sure to have a music career better than anyone else in this competition.

Dont think she has a shot to actually win as Lil is likely the only woman who has a shot.

FWIW they should have said
Matt your in, nice voice.
Megan your in, we need a real hottie
Anoop your in, we need a Slumdog Idol
Jasmine your in, your black

GD you did mention this was a rumor, so i saw it coming from before the commercial break.

Anoop was so bad, I thought I was watching a movie that parodies how bad this show can be. No real other words to describe that.So of course he is through. It stopped being surprising a good while ago this year

This year the new up is down.

Re: American Idol 2009- Season 8 Thread and Discussion

did anyone else have this dvr'd and run out of time? mine sure the hell did. would have been surprised to see both Anoop and David get through. i really don't read into rumors or anything other than just watching the show, and Doberman's recaps (which are basically better than the show). Apparently this was rumored so it was no big surprise, however I def would have been surprised . Didn't think Anoop deserved to get in, nor Jasminie, but obviously they have to have the demographics. Thought Meghan, and David were clearly the best ones.

Wildcard Night for American Idol 8

I really thought that the answers were pre-printed tonight. Anoop, Matt G. and Megan were locks. Looks like I was only 75% right.....

1. Jesse Langseth - Nice, Niiiice outfit Jesse - and did a nice job covering up that fivehead of yours. Almost didn't notice - almost. As for the singing, I noticed. Thanks for playing.

2. Matt Giraud - Bluesy isn't even bluesy enough of a description. He sang what the judges asked for and they fawned all over it. That's how you play the game, and welcome to the "Top 12*".

Did anyone notice the guy upstairs moving the contestants around?

3. Megan Corkery
- Our second "lock" of the night. Is that a dance move? Looks more like a washing machine. I can only imagine that the kids today are all screaming "let's do the Whirlpool!!!" Whatever. I don't get this girl's appeal. Different? Yes. Good? No.

4. Von Smith - Hey, want to make everyone depressed? Sing "SAD" over and over. Nice song choice - for an Irish wake. Von Smith? More like Von Paris. Pack up kid, the road's that-a-way.

5. Jasmine Murray - Yeah, I was wondering the same thing - where'd that come from? Good song, good delivery - I was REALLY wondering how the judges were going to make that performance match up with their pre-printed selections.... I guess they figured out a workaround.

6. Ricky Braddy
- Does anyone really remember this guy from the first time? I don't, and he's really just filler here. "Superstitious" in party-mode / Mr. Microphone style doesn't cut it. C-ya.

7. Tatiana Del Toro
- Oof. This girl gives trainwrecks a bad name. The weird / scary thing is that she does have a voice - and apparently now a Latino accent. Was ANYBODY surprised she didn't make the cut? Definitely have to keep an eye on this one - she could go over the edge quickly and I'm not even half-kidding. Paula, give Tatiana whatever you had before the show started - and make it a double.

8. Anoop Dog Desai
- Ah, hypocritical judges. Anoop brings back a song (from Hollywood week, where we saw, oh, 3 seconds of it?) and does it pretty good. Slumdog Idol has a shot here - but don't go BrownDawg again Randy. Send him on, because that's Simon's prerogative.

After all 8 performed, they picked Megan and (gasp) Jasmine - whoa, now what? What happened to the script? Well, that and the one-hour time limit went out the window and they decided to pull a fast one on America and their DVRs. Top 13! Anoop, Megan and Matt all made it - with the addition of Jasmine, who clearly sang her way in to the Top 12.

Seriously - how staged was that show? Every judge pre-determined their answers and tailored their thoughts to pimp the 3 that they wanted. Megan was "quirky" and "wasn't the best vocal, but didn't matter" (same was said for Anoop) and Anoop was also a part of "casting the show right"? Yeah, no pre-judging going on here.

Still pissed they brought Tatiana back so Simon could bury her instead of giving Felicia a shot.

Good points. Simon wanted to get his hands on her. She was doomed no matter how good she did. Simon = no open mind, he's a hater and had it in for her day 1. Sorry girl, if lord Simon doesn't like Ewwwwwwe, you're toast.

Re: American Idol 2009- Season 8 Thread and Discussion

Have opening odds done for the 13 finalists, going to post them later but am going to wait to see if a few more books will put up so odds.

Just for kicks I went back and looked at my opening odds for all the finalists. Remember I put these up before the show even aired:

Adam Lambert 10-1
Alexis Grace 40-1
Allison Iraheta 50-1
Anoop Desai 20-1
Danny Gokey 8-1
Jasmine Murray 20-1
Jorge Nunez-Mendez 12-1
Kris Allen 10-1
Lil Rounds 10-1
Matt Giraud 50-1
Megan Corkrey 5-1
Michael Sarver 40-1
Scott MacIntyre 8-1

Commentary: Pretty solid opening odds there as most of the favorites came out at 10-1 or less. Missed a little on Alexis, a lot on Allison, and maybe on Matt G. (still don't like him and don't think he has a prayer of winning).

Others I had low that missed out:

Anne-Marie Boskovich 8- surprisingly disappointed for many
Casey Carlson 12- had the look but not the voice
Joanna Pacitti 10- was DQ'ed
Kendall Beard 7- no country genre blonde this year
Stephen Fowler 10- not good enough to fill the black guy spot
Von Smith 9- lost in the crowd of gay males

I Fed Exed a couple letters to the show this week suggesting they bring in Kady Malloy as a mentor for one of the weeks or if they cant get her, than one week should be Kady Malloy week where contestants either sing one of the songs Kady sang on the show or one of the songs on her website.

Have not heard back yet. Obviously this is a good idea, it will probably take them 4-5 weeks to put it together, so we will see it later.

Simon has no idea what is happening. He does not care. He is rich and does not need this and has no interest in it really anymore and almost never sees anything he thinks is worthwhile. He shows up and collects a fat paycheck. That is it. Not judging him, but that is what it is.

I figured that out last year when they were down to about 5 left, Kristy Lee Cook one of them, and he had no idea what her name was. Im not kidding.

Viewers may have noticed last week after the big BYU girl Taylor Vaifanua butchered some song, just a few people later Simon had no idea there was a girl named Taylor in the contest.

just maybe the saddest video

like every other business, Best Buy is having a going out of business sale. After buying a TV which was deeply discounted I was handed a $25 gift card. I picked up a couple CD's with it.

I got Carrie's last CD, which I really like. Some good stuff on there the radio will not see. But this one was on there. Just so sad.

I love Allison, but do you think that Jasmine might be a good underdog longshot? After all, she is talented and has upside. Her last song was a 'breakout' performance. What about a flyer at 20-1?

Here's an article of media whore and lousy oddsmaker John Avello's opening odds. He runs the Wynn sportsbook and will inevitably be wrong again just like every year even though he simply copies others and is about two months later than the first odds:

Mar. 07, 2009
Copyright ? Las Vegas Review-Journal

NORM: 'Idol' contestant odds established
Church music director Danny Gokey, a man on a mission since his wife died in July after heart surgery, is a narrow favorite to win the eighth season of "American Idol" over pixie-sized Alexis Grace, according to a Las Vegas oddsmaker.
John Avello, director of race and sports operations at Wynn Las Vegas, established Gokey as the 4-1 favorite among the 13 finalists revealed Thursday. The 4-foot-11 Grace is 5-1.

Avello's odds are for entertainment only; no betting.
Mother of three Lil Rounds, a favorite of judge Simon Cowell, is 6-1.
Legally blind Scott MacIntyre, a gifted pianist, is Avello's fourth pick at 8-1.
Adam Lambert, a big-voiced showman, is 9-1. Allison Iraheta, at 16 the youngest finalist, is a 10-1 choice.
Matt Giraud, 12-1, one of four wild-card finalists chosen by the "Idol" judges, is betting on his soulful talents.
Anoop Desai, who's come a long way since starting off on Cowell's bad side by showing up for the Kansas City auditions in shorts and flip-flops, is listed at 15-1.
At 20-1 is quirky Megan Corkrey, the single mom from Sandy, Utah.
The others: Puerto Rico's Jorge Nunez, 25-1 (keep in mind that Avello had Taylor Hicks as a 25-1 long shot before he won Season 5; former Miss America contestant Jasmine Murray, 30-1; Texas oil rig worker Michael Sarver, 40-1 and college worship leader Kris Allen, 50-1.
Gokey's wife, Sophia, died after a third operation for a congenital heart problem. She was 27 and a fan of "Idol" because Gokey reminded her of Hicks. Gokey decided to pursue "Idol" after talking it over with his pastor in Wisconsin.
