none of that is really true, they have very little rare earths that can be economically mined, much of it is in russian areas, I read at most they could provide $1 billion in value/yr.
On Feb. 3, Trump emphatically said the Ukrainians had “very valuable rare earths.” Always keen to be perceived as a dealmaker, he added: "We're looking to do a deal with Ukraine where they're going to secure what we're giving them with their rare earths and other things." He doubled down a few days later, telling Fox News on Feb. 11 about his talks with Ukrainian officials: “I told them that I want the equivalent like $500 billion worth of rare earth.”

I was puzzled. To the best of my knowledge, Ukraine has no significant rare-earth deposits other than small scandium mines. The US Geological Survey, an authority on the matter, doesn’t list the country as holding any reserves. Neither does any other database commonly used in the mining business.

it looks like they have some stuff but not enough to mine in a normal/profitable way. So it makes no sense because other countries have far better deposits with more bang for the buck.

Trump just goes by what some of his idiot advisors say, he's wrong on many things, he thinks the russians have taken more losses than ukraine, he keeps talking about it being flat - it's really not that flat at all.
This rare mineral crap has nothing to do with ukraine it has to do with china - china controls the mining of many of the important ones so some of these guys are obsessed with them.
I assume zelensky will sign that piece of paper - trump will have a win, but it wont change a thing, the russians will continue their creeping offensive until they get what they want, which is no nato for ukraine, no foreign troops in ukraine, and hardest of all will be the end of the Nazi regime in ukraine.
