I think it was lavrov or some other russian official who said today that russia will never again be dependent on the west, they will survive just fine without mcdonalds, goldman sachs, twitter and facebook.

Lots of short term pain for long term gain.

The truth is the west needs them more then they need us , this is especially true when you consider that most of the world will not be enforcing sanctions on them.

China, india, most of africa, pakistan, brazil, many others have rejected sanctions, easily more than 1/2 the worlds population.

Keep in mind we need china far more than they need us, from drugs to steel to mfg and electronics, we would have as hard a time without them as russia is going to have without us.

The world is full of tradable currencies, not to mention india couls use dollars if they wanted(and the russians), they just couldn't use the swift system to do it.

China is trying to remove the dollar as the reserve currency, these sanctions are the perfect way to speed that along, Russia produces 10 million bbls/day of oil, I'm not sure how much they export, lets say 4 million, there might be some temporary hiccups but they will keep exporting all that oil and they WILL get paid for it somehow.

Once it's shown it's easy to NOT use the dollar, our dominance will wane, and chinas will rise, that's the whole point from chinas perspective.
