Horse racing and handcrafted bourbon share a special bond here in the Bluegrass State. And there’s no better example of this link than the enduring partnership between Maker’s Mark® and Keeneland Race Course. After all, the very first case of Maker’s Mark® ever sold was served at Keeneland.
To honor this longstanding relationship, we’ve once again partnered with our friends at Keeneland to produce a limited-release bottle design that celebrates these most beloved of Kentucky pastimes. The 2020 Keeneland bottle features an all-black bottle adorned with green accents and striking equine artwork by renowned artist Jeaneen Barnhart.
Proceeds from these commemorative bottles will go to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF), an independent charitable organization which helps jockeys who have sustained debilitating on-track injuries. To make them even more collectable, each bottle, for the first time ever, will be pre-signed, featuring the signatures of Keeneland’s five leading active jockeys by stakes wins: Robby Albarado, Javier Castellano, Julien Leparoux, Mike Smith and John Velazquez. The bottles will also feature the signatures of Keeneland President Bill Thomason and Maker’s Mark Managing Director – and grandson of the founders – Rob Samuels.
Only available at select Kentucky retailers, the 2020 Keeneland bottle will begin arriving on shelves Friday, July 3. Again, only a limited number of these unique bottles will be produced, so gallop – don’t trot – down to your local retailer to pick up your very own.
Finally, even though fans can’t attend Keeneland’s 2020 Summer Meet (including the 24th running of the Maker’s Mark Mile® on Friday, July 10), you can still celebrate the occasion. Come on out and join one of our Lexington-area watch parties, featuring special Maker’s Mark cocktails served in commemorative Keeneland glasses. Or bring the trackside excitement to your very own abode through “Keeneland at Home Presented by Central Bank,” which offers fans creative ways to enjoy the five-day Summer Meet. We hope you join us in celebrating two time-honored Bluegrass traditions, all while helping one incredibly worthwhile cause.
