George Blaha has outlived them all. Every other classic Tigers, Lions and Wings announcer is retired or dead. Blaha I think is still going. I use bunny in his honour.

Last post, JK. My favourite Blaha bad memory is when he went nuts on Charles Oakley during the playoff series with the Knicks. Cheap shot Charlie. I think he may have even called him a thug. He'd get canceled if the tape of that ever resurfaced.

He's been the voice of the Pistons since 1976-77 season, almost 50 years!!!! I know no other announcer for the Pistons!

Yes, as Vitale was there 1978-79....came over from University of Detroit, now known as Detroit Mercy, where he had fantastic NBA caliber talent from the inner city of Detroit. John Long, Terry Tyler, Terry Duerod and Dennis Boyd. Went 25-4 in his final season at U of D, and were ranked #12 in the AP and #19 in the coaches poll. Defeated Middle Tennessee in the opening round of the NCAA, but lost to Michigan 86-81 in the regional semi-finals. After this season, Vitale was promoted to AD, and then the following year, left for the Pistons. Once at the Pistons, Vitale drafted Long and Tyler in the 1978 NBA draft, and he drafted Duerod in the '79 NBA draft and added Boyd as a free agent. Tyler and Long had extensive careers in the NBA and Duerod won a NBA title w/ the Celtics in 81.

I didn't remember all that but I recall he did draft Magic's buddy Greg Kelser as the #4 pick in '79 draft that set the
franchise back a few years. Bust.
