Sanday Alcantara goes 8 innings against the Brewers giving up 1 run, of course the Marlins provided him with his usual run support, with all due respect to guys like Urias, Fried, and Gallen, if Sandy doesn't win the CY there needs to be an investigation

He won't win it but Gallen would get my vote. 6 straight starts without giving up a run!?

He has to be on almost every night. He doesn't get much run support either especially
if Zona is up against a lefty.

Sandy has the lowest run support of any pitcher in the NL, and possibly all of baseball, he leads the league in innings pitched by a wide margin, and has 6 complete games, there are teams that don't have that many, that has to mean something, BTW, Gallen 0 complete games, if you compare their numbers it's close, to me the deciding factor has to be Sandy's innings and complete games, he's pitched 50 more innings than Gallen, he isn't a guy who gets taken out after 5 so he doesn't have to face the lineup for the third time, Sandy faces the lineup a third and even fourth time, that has to mean something. Take nothing away from Gallen, Urias, or Fried, their numbers are all similar to Sandy's, except for innings pitched and complete games, to me that's the tie breaker. Also, what would Urias and Fried's numbers look like if they were pitching for the Marlins, and what would Sandy's numbers be if he was on Atl or LA, put him on one of those teams and he's got 20-22 wins

Innings pitched is big to me; ignored by the analytics crowd. One reason I've always been a fan of Verlander. Bullpen fatigue a very underrated factor.

Bingo! Whenever Sandy pitches, Mattingly knows he doesn't have to over use his bullpen. I agree that innings pitched and complete games are often overlooked stats, but think of how much he saves the pen, the day after a Sandy start the pen is always fresh. I love watching him pitch, he's a throw back, when he takes the mound his intent is to go 9 innings, of course that's not possible every time out, but 6 complete games in today's game is unheard of, and he gets stronger as the game goes on, I've seen him hit 100 in the eighth and ninth consistently. LIke I said, if he doesn't win the award something is wrong, and that takes nothing away from the fantastic seasons turned in by the other contenders, but if you add up the complete games thrown by the other three guys it comes to 0, Sandy has 6

Have to be nuts to take the Dodgers at current pennant price (+150).

Despite #1 seed and bye they get Atlanta or Mets in NLDS.

You don’t have to worry about that….just found out that all three games in the first round are at the higher seeds ballpark…didn’t realize that….

Steve Cohen Hired the Best Mets Money Could Buy. They Were Still the Mets.

  • Mets only manage one hit in decisive Game 3 loss to Padres
  • Point72’s Cohen spent a league-leading $314 million on payroll

Steve Cohen’s dreams of bringing a third World Series to the New York Mets will have to wait at least another year.

The team crashed out of the Wild Card round of the Major League Baseball playoffs Sunday night in ignominious fashion, mustering only one hit in a 6-0 loss to the San Diego Padres in the deciding game of their best-of-three series.
It’s not the result that Mets fans wanted after a 101-win season, the franchise’s best since 1986, when it last won a World Series. They had high hopes after Cohen, the hedge fund titan worth $12.8 billion, quickly amassed the league’s most expensive roster.

Cohen, 66, the founder of $26 billion hedge fund Point72 Asset Management, said he wanted to win a championship within three to five years after paying $2.4 billion for the team in 2020. The early exit raises questions about needing to spend even more to go all the way.

Some of the Mets’ stars are now eligible to enter free agency, including pitchers Jacob deGrom -- who notched the team’s only postseason win -- and Edwin Diaz. Re-signing them could be expensive.
It didn’t look like the season would end this way in August, when the team was riding high after series wins against last year’s champions, the rival Atlanta Braves, and the league-leading Los Angeles Dodgers. On Sept. 1, after knocking off the Dodgers, the Mets were 84-48.

But the team faded the rest of the way. It culminated in a sweep by the Braves heading into October, costing the Mets their division lead and forcing them into a Wild Card duel with the Padres.

The Mets lost 7-1 in Game 1 on Friday, then bounced back with a 7-3 win on Saturday. Then came Sunday’s loss, when Mets batters were struggling so much against Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove that Buck Showalter had the umpires check his ears for foreign substances.

Cohen sought to build a roster that would advance deep into the playoffs. He spent a league-leading $314 million on payroll with a number of big free-agent signings, including a record-breaking $43 million a year for pitcher Max Scherzer. Scherzer went 11-5 in the regular season but surrendered four home runs when he started on Friday and was pulled in the fifth inning.

Scherzer said the end to the season felt like “a kick in the balls.”

If history is any guide, Cohen will seek out new talent heading into 2023. And he may not need look very far.

Aaron Judge, the New York Yankees star who broke the American League record for home runs this season, will become one of the most high-profile free agents in the offseason. If Cohen shells out enough cashBut for now, the Yankees have one obvious advantage over the Mets: They’re still in the World Series hunt. Their first game of the playoffs is Tuesday night against the Cleveland Guardians. to bring him in from the Mets’ crosstown rival, it might be a sign that the balance of power in New York baseball is shifting.

That ball was crushed! When no one in the outfield even comes out of their stance you know it was a bomb. No one moved or bothered to look.

Wow.

I know Kimbrel has been inconsistent but how to you leave the active career save leader off your roster!?

Roberts can't use him if he needs a K against a righty? He trusts Dustin May more? 🤦

Did you see Roberts "congratulating" Kershaw after his wonderful 5 inning, 3 earned run performance? That's not a quality start for a 4th starter, let alone an ace.

This Seattle/Houston game very interesting. Crushing loss for Seattle on Tuesday, but I like them today. As good of a season as Valdes has had, there's some issues here. His Sept 24 and Sept 30 starts were flat out poor; 10 2/3 innings 20 hits allowed 13 overall runs. Then it looks like he had a bounceback; 5 innings of 2 hit shutout ball against Philadelphia. But was it? It was the season finale, and Philly was already locked in. Harper didn't play at all, guys like Marsh and Bohm only late game appearances; Realmuto played, but didn't catch. Valdes' effort Oct 5 was clearly dressed up. If any team can bounce back from the tough loss, it's probably Seattle. I'm taking the M's plus 143.

Tonight would have been a perfect time for Roberts to try a bullpen game.

Gonsolin has only pitched a few innings in a month due to injury and really looked average prior to his forearm issue.

However, Roberts has screwed up the the bullpen, using high leverage guys in low leverage situations and vice-versa. Gonsolin still might only go 3 innings but you get the point with Roberts.
