People see the low RBI number (relative to HRs) and conclude that its a bad season. Let's not forget, he was batting 2nd right behind Schwarber the first two months, and Schwarber was hitting around .170 or so on Memorial Day, so no question that kept RBIs down.

RBI is an even worse stat than most people think.

Albert Pujols has a .677 OPS and 100 RBI
Kris Bryant has a .953 OPS and 73 RBI

Acknowledging greatness doesn't make you a homer. The Cubs have the most wins in baseball since 2015, not coincidentally the year Kris Bryant became a Cub.

Baseball Reference WAR has KB 4th in the NL behind Stanton, Votto, and Arenado. A little surprised he is ahead of Goldschmidt.

The Marlins stink, I wasn't giddy moron, just pointing out how a team with no pitching was close to your team late in the season. You can't be dumb enough to actually think I was comparing the two teams

I dunno, you think a guy with a 130 OPS+ is better than a guy with a 145 OPS+... so it's safe to speculate on your lack of intelligence. Votto is definitely a better hitter than either, and may be a better hitter than anyone in the NL, but he plays 1B and is mediocre defensively.

When the MVL voting comes out, we'll see where each player is, of course Bryant has the advantage of making the playoffs whereas Stanton and Votto won't, and the voters always take that into consideration

The fact you think MVP voting is relevant to a serious discussion says a lot about your intelligence level.

Ask most casual fans and they'll tell you Bryant is having a down year from last year's near unanimous MVP campaign. His OPS is .001 lower.

Bryant will not do well in MVP voting because of RBIs, because lots of dumb people and outdated minds (like you) have MVP votes.

Martinez--479 plate appearances 1079 OPS

Bryant--669 plate appearances 949 OPS

Bryant has a higher war due to Martinez missing a lot of the early season and almost 200 fewer plate appearances

Being healthy for a full season is a skill

not to mention Bryant played for at least a month with a banged up thumb that hurt his overall numbers

There is a lot of luck in staying healthy.

Since Bryant played hurt, affecting his numbers, you can’t really assume them.

It is a pretty good starting point though and a good general tool when looking back at past seasons.

Referencing an early post about Bryant batting 2nd in the lineup behind Schwarber - madden has batted the P 9th more this year, so Bryant batting 2nd isn’t as good for his RBI chances.

Dont consider opponent? The entire stat is based on opponents performance. The league averages are the baseline to gauge a players WAR.

What's amazing is Tommy Pham would likely be 1st if he didn't spend a month in the minors.

Pham is 4th in the NL in bWAR and 6th in fWAR despite playing in only 126 games.
