I heard somewhere that since the hurricane hit, Trump has tweeted 24 times about the NFL, 5 times about PR, even if it's just optics he should be focusing more on the devastation down there and less on football

Trump has had a bug up his ass towards the NFL ever since his own leadership lead to the banishment of the USFL. Trump has also tried to break into the NFL ownership club since then but they wouldn't let him into their club. In true trump fashion this whole controversy is all about him and his own self interest instead of doing his job of serving the American people.

NFL owners are the ultimate old boy network. As is the NHL and the other 2 leagues. No way in hell they wanted Trump in their secret club then, or now. They see exactly what he did with the USFL and want no part of him and rightly so. Trump's a lone wolf and any success he's had in life came on his own and not being part of a group.
