my weekend in vegas...

Stayed at the M in a beautiful suite. The M was magnificent, very upscale, clean, friendly. Excellent food. The customer service was outstanding. Our room wasn't ready immediately when we arrived, so we were upgraded to a suite. Unfortunately, the pool and deck weren't open yet, and the weather was great (compared to new york). The casino and sportsbook were very customer friendly and clean. It was such a contrast to the strip where there is so much traffic and rif raf in the hotels and street.

Had a dinner at Michael Mina in the Bellagio that was one of the best meals I have ever had.
Dinner at Jaleo in the Cosmopolitan was trendy and very good.

I met Fezzik in the sportsbook and he was very nice and I could tell he is a very smart/sharp guy.

I was beyond surprised at how stupid some of the gamblers at the blackjack table were. I was playing blackjack and saw things that made me almost fall off my chair:

doubling on 7 against a face card 7.
doubling on a 12 against lots of cards.
doubling on an 8 against a 9.
lots of people pressing when they are losing and then going to the atm.
splitting 10s against anything.
taking insurance which could be the worst odds bet on the planet.
hitting on 16 against a 6.

I guess this is how they build the casinos.

It's funny, I have played 100's of hours of BJ and have yet to observe an other player at my table playing correct basic strategy. Mind boggling.

Re: my weekend in vegas...

won a little bit in blackjack. lost a little in ncaa hoops. the m was great, very clean and upscale. good breakfast and lunch and hash a go go. didnt try the buffet but heard good things about it. the one bad thing about the place is it is about a 20 minute or approx $35 cab ride from the strip if you want other food, entertainment etc. the m has 3 places for dinner, one italian, one steak, and one asian on the 16th floor overlooking the strip. best dinners were outside the hotel.

Thanks for the review, Doc. I hope to catch you on your next visit to Las Vegas. The location of the M Resort is the biggest negative of the property and a real challenge for Las Vegas as a whole. Some of the best properties are now located on the outskirts of the city (M, Red Rock, South Point, etc.). Time to demolish places like the Imperial Palace and Riviera and revitalize the heart of Las Vegas Boulevard.

+1, and even though it's irrational for that to bother me it drives me crazy. i mean, a little variation i can deal with. you don't want to hit 15 against a 7 because you have a 'hunch'? fine. but if you're going to double on 12 or split a loser i can't handle it.

I will double 12 against a 6---dealer has better chance to bust than I do----I know bad stratergy. I believe you have to make a hand.

Unlucky,

From reading your post, I don't think you're unlucky, just not real bright when it comes to BJ.

Got a feeling that 4 offshore casinos have just offered you a nice bonus to play into their casino games online....

With a 6 showing, the dealer will only bust 40% of the time, which means 60% of the time he's making 17-21. Doubling 12 and busting 30% of the time, not to mention all those a's 2's, 3's and 4's you might get is pure madness.
