NEW YORK IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF WIDESPREAD IGNORANCE

There's a bill in the New York legislature that would require any company with more than 100 employees to provide health insurance to their employees. Under this bill these companies would have to spend at least $3 per hour for every employee to pay for health benefits. Oddly, manufacturing and agriculture is exempt.
First ... can someone please explain to me just how it came to pass that we all assume that employers are responsible for the health care of employees? May I suggest that, among other things, this is all part of the left-wing war on individuality that's been ongoing in this country for decades? The object here is to attack the concept of the individual by attacking the idea of individual responsibility! No politician, then, wants to suggest that it might be best for the individual to assume the responsibility for their own health care. Any politician who recognizes the concept of individual responsibility then has to recognize the concept of individual rights. When you start talking about the idea of individual rights you then have to address the ways that government infringes on those rights. Politicians don't like to do that ... so the best preventative is to destroy the idea of individualism altogether. Remember, no less than Ted Kennedy himself has admitted the existence of the war against individuality in this country.
Government power is at the center of this issue. Politicians have long known that in order to control the individual they need to control that individual's access to some of the basic necessities of life. Social Security, for instance, exists for two reasons. One, to provide a huge amount of cash that politicians can use to buy votes. Secondly, to control to whatever extent possible the retirement life of older Americans. It is more difficult for a politician to frighten a senior citizen who is living a comfortable retired life on funds invested in private retirement accounts. But if those funds are controlled by the political class, the wizened citizens are more than willing to protect their retirement lifestyle with their votes. Politicians know that this power will only be increased if they can also control a person's access to health care. When an individual owns their own private health insurance policy their dependency on government is lessened. Politicians don't like this, so they make it as difficult as possible for individuals to be able to afford their own private health insurance policies. Politicians do this through expensive mandated coverages and the denial of tax breaks for individuals striking out on their own.
Back to New York. The politicians in New York who are proposing this health insurance mandate for employers with over 100 employees know that the people won't understand that the cost will eventually be born by the consumers. It is a virtual tax increase on every citizen of the state of New York. This $3 per hour cost for every employee is going to end up embedded in the cost of whatever consumer good or service these companies produce. This is a tax, and all taxes are paid by individuals. Thanks to our hideous system of government education most people don't understand this. Once again, politicians will be made more powerful, the concept of individual responsibility will take a beating, and our ignorance will cost us money at the cash register.
