Is Bob Baffert Done As A Trainer?

It's not about the horse racing boards or the commissions, but aren't the owners going to decide his fate.

Who wants Baffert now that his Derby run is suspended for a few years?

Is he going to become the new 'King of Claimers'? (not with that ego)

He always cheated, but now it's a mainstream story not just whispers on the backstretch.

IMO...he's done.

Funny that D. Wayne Lukas, once a bitter rival of Bob Baffert's, served as his spokesperson at the Preakness.

Baffert is lucky the Churchill Downs suspension lasts only two years.

They could have banned him permanently.

Of course, the term of the suspension will be appealed.

Last year, the Arkansas Racing Commission banned Baffert for 15 days but Baffert was vindicated when he won an appeals case there.

Interesting to note: Medina Spirit has not yet been disqualifiied.

Clark Brewster, attorney for Amr Zedan, owner of Medina Spirit, told the Herald-Leader that the Kentucky racing commission is allowing the horse’s original blood sample to be retested, this time for chemicals that could prove Baffert’s assertion that the drug betamethasone came from a skin cream rather than from a joint injection.

Really!? That matters? What's the difference? It got into the horses' system. Baffert didn't know beta was
in the cream? lol

Baffert asserted that this horse was never treated with the drug. Now the lawyer is asserting it was
in a cream. Can't make this buffoonery up.

Can you suspended the trainer but not disqualify the horse? That would be unprecedented.

Why not? It's not the horse's fault he was drugged. The drug won't stay in the system long. Just give him to a new trainer, like what happened with the Servis and Navarro horses back in 2019.

The horse will get a new trainer. But by not disqualifying the horse aren't you saying the method is bad, but
we accept the result?

To me the delay is telling. They really don't want to disqualify this horse and taint their pristine race further.

horse racing is no longer relevant, only 2 races at santa anita had more than 5 horses last weekend. its a death trap its a suicide rap

He will stay active looking for yearlings to run when his suspension is over. He will be active in the sales.

I am sure there will be some loophole where Baffert can have some input on the training of the horses that changes barns. Ownership will demand that.

They are smarter than the people running horse racing.

Just to clarify, you are talking should he be disqualified from future events. He will be disqualified from his Derby win. We have not heard about any overage or positive test from the Preakness, and Medina Spirit earned $110k for his 3rd place finish. No, I see no reason to penalize the horse going forward. The trainer bears the responsibility for any medication overage. And how about Velasquez? He did nothing wrong but will be DQ'd out of a Derby riding iwn.

We gotta get out while we're young. Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run. Great song. Fantastic album.

No. Just the KD result.

Irad Ortiz, Jr. hit the ground hard in the upper stretch of today's fifth race at Belmont Park.

His mount, Equal Pay, would have won for fun at odds of 5/1.

Tough loss for those who backed Equal Pay.

The good news: Irad was awake and alert and moving all extremities despite being placed on a flatboard and taken to a nearby hospital.

He is scheduled to ride all 13 races Saturday at Belmont Park, including the Belmont Stakes aboard Known Agenda.

Baffert isn’t done, too connected with owners that don’t give a shit about the publicity as long as he handshakes with them that he’ll continue to mostly be a step ahead of the tests

Baffert and his Breeders' Cup entries:

The Breeders’ Cup has in place a team of two investigators, three security officers and a Breeders’ Cup executive to watch Baffert’s barn on a 24-hour basis until the horses are shipped to Del Mar in the coming days.

Once the horses are moved, a security officer will be assigned to each of Baffert’s horses and will be equipped with body cams. Normally, body cams are not used and a single security officer watches two or three horses.

LOL....

Baffert's reputation now mirrors the Astros.

That helps Baffert more than hurts him.

Been to the rack three times the Fall Meet. Fans give him an ovation when he wins and walks to the Run Happy Winners Circle. He is still well liked and have owners trust.

It was a medical and not for performance. Owners are OK with that. They got in their position to buy racehorses because they were shrewd business people and probably cheated as well. Everyone cheats in every profession.

I won't be shocked if Medina Spirit wins the Classic tomorrow. He's not the most likely winner, but Baffert tends to make an impact on these giant days. He's won the Classic many times with numerous different horses. We know Del Mar's surface and that short stretch run favors speed. Stranger things have happened.

Let's see what stock he gets now, banned from Churchill for two years and
his horses not eligible for any Derby points.

Medina Spirit died near the finish line.

Some said he was dead before he hit the ground at Santa Anita.

Heartbreaking.

Great line from Nick Tammaro on the Steve Byk podcast:

"It all this (re: Baffert horses) is coincidental, then Baffert is the unluckiest man on earth."
