Harris was a favorite in the 2020 primaries but totally flopped due to the fact she's unlikable, she never caught on, gained zero traction, was destroyed by tulsi gabbard in a debate and was the first main candidate to drop out. Her record as VP is dismal at best.
Yesterday even AOC said if joe drops out few people want kamalla., then you add in the fact that Jill biden apparently hates kamalla and since she's the power that means joe wont really back her.
At best joe will give her a half hearted endorsement but then say something like " lets let the people/delegates decide.

Had Joe been the one to "take a bullet for Democracy", fits right into the Dems playbook. Now they are still running that play because they have nothing else and Trump keeps making them pay. I think the main issue with that idea is that you want to know your VP can be lifted to the Prez position if needed for any reason.
The juxtaposition of young and energetic JD Vance on one side and a guy on the other side (Joe) more than double JD's age, would be quite a stark (and dark) contrast to the downside for the Blue Team.
