A helping hand for driving in Costa Rica

from craiglist cr:

If you have had the experience of driving in busy Costa Rican traffic... and asked your passenger to stick out their hand in the typical tico "wave" so
the driver in the next lane would give you room to move over... you'll understand how important having that extra arm can be in a crucial moment !!

But, what if you are driving alone ??

Get a helping HAND (and arm) to stick out the passenger's window... UNIQUE, HILARIOUS.... and IT (usually) WORKS !!

tico drivers are fair if you blink your lights to get in. if you wave them on, they usually don't get it.
also, should you break down, you'll find ticos are very helpful. many will stop to help you.
now, the bashing. slow drivers to the right, passing on left--doesn't exist. they drive slow in every
lane. if you blink you lights or lightly tap your horn in hope for a move over--forget it. the pride jumps in,
and they'll slow down even more. ticos love to drive and talk and love to drive and text--in all lanes.
the kings of the roads are the two wheeled motos. torture. they have no respect for divided lanes.
they create their own lanes and cause dozens of accidents DAILY! passing on the right is the usual
occurance. imagine pulling into a parking space on your right and here comes a motor bike between you and the space.
the government realized motor bikes cause the majority of accidents. so, the government decided
to increase their registration fees to help pay for insurance for all the accidents. they protested at
a large pay toll area. they broke car windows, broke the toll gates, dented cars, etc. government
backed down and increased the registration on cars instead..
another thing cars are famous for are using service roads to move ahead of traffic. they eventually
must enter the main road, so the effect is that all traffic slows as traffic stops to let them enter.
don't be surprised if you see cars stopping on a one lane street to talk to a friend, or slow down to look at a woman. cars backed up behind them means nothing. funny thing is that other ticos don't
honk their horns. pura vida-hahahahaha.

I thought driving here was a real nightmare. It looks like we have it easy.
