My guess is the casino has 300 employees, ritz carelton is closing on may 2nd that's another 500 emplyees. But the issue is the casino and ritz is the big supporter to the whole village out here, its all gonna hafta close because they rely on us for business and traffic.

Will the housing developments around the lake become essentially ghost towns if they're not already so?

Re: Like i said down goes lake las vegas

Re: Like i said down goes lake las vegas

In another LLV thread, I asked the same, Tuck says the condos are in the 40 to 80 range......well off the highs of over 400,000

i have seen the condos at the viera thats right by the casino for around 60-80k... Nice 1 bedroom places..As far as the houses i'm a lil unsure i have seen some signs for the lower 300's..I believe those houses went for well over 500k until the market crashes, but i'm not 100% positive..I am sure they will continue to drop with the casino closing ans the ritz as the place will be completely standstill i would imagine for the most part..

But then again i cant see the casino/ritz staying closed for along period of time, i would imagine someone would snatch it up sooner rather then later as its a beautiful area and has alot of potentiol with the right people in charge..

Tucker- I remember you from the Casino now. You are the younger, goofy, bald guy who walks around the Casino doing nothing with that older lady.

Remember me and this chick were playing video poker? And the machine got stuck or something and you hit it and it was working again. LOL And she called you Fonzi?

FK, its not what u would call a town...

Its more like lil villiage with some expensive homes surrounding the ritz carelton/the casino/ viera hotel.. There is bunch of shops in the middle of it all..there is a few golf courses as well (one being designed by jack nicklaus), one being reflection bay...this place doesnt rely on lake mead anymore then the rest of las vegas, its just called lake las vegas because we are extremely close to lake mead..

Its kinda the more richy area, its around 25 minutes from the strip...If u take the 215 all the way to the end and continue past feista henderson and head straight out its out that way towards lake mead..(i think you are familiar with vegas so i assume u know where that is)

Parents stayed there a couple of times because they liked being further away. Tuck, you're still OK though correct? Hopefully.

Do you think this place is going to go under, i mean the entire town becomes a ghost town? Or, is it just going to keep chugging along? I remember seeing homes there going for million bucks and whatnut, now you can get a condo for 37 dimes? Does their casino have a sportsbook, or do you have to drive to the strip to bet sports/horses?

Damn, beautiful place.

GL Tuck.

Yeah- place is really nice, Jimmy. I've stayed there before. The place didn't have a ton of people but I liked that. Wasn't crowded like the strip and you could still drive down to the strip whenever you wanted.

It's too bad this is happening.

i honestly dont know what to think, the only reason we found out anything about it was the guy that is trying to buy the place went into the restrauant after the meeting was over and told one of the servers, other then that nobody would have even heard about it...Even if he gets the bank to agree to lease/sell him the casino, if this transaction is not completed by march 14th we will still hafta close..Once the casino closes its gonna take alot longer to get all the lisences he will need to reopen compared to just tarnsferring a few things and then obtaining the rest while we operate...

Kinda tough to hear 1 day u are losing your job in 3 weeks, then just hear a rumor from the direct source u might not be out of one depending on a few variables..Its like a roller coaster thats constinatly throwing whoopy do woo's at ya..I just want to know the truth so i can figure out where i stand

Employees of Casino MonteLago were told on Feb. 16 the casino would be closing and they would receive 30 days of pay.
CIRI Lakeside Gaming, which has operated the 40,000-square-foot Casino MonteLago since 2007, said lack of visitation and the impending shutdown of the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas in May were the primary reasons for announcing the casino would close on March 14.
John Tipton, a Denver-based attorney who represents CIRI Lakeside Gaming, said the ownership was negotiating for additional funding. However, when the Ritz-Carlton's planned closure was announced on Feb. 8, negotiations collapsed.
Tipton said the Ritz-Carlton's action was unexpected and unforeseeable.
"These circumstances are a clear exception to providing the 60-day notice pursuant to (the WARN Act)," Tipton said in an e-mail, citing the subsection that covers a reduction in the notification period. "The owners also made it clear why the notice period was being reduced."
Employees, he said, were asked to sign a document saying they had received a copy of the WARN Act.
Several people, claiming to be employees of Casino MonteLago, contacted the Review-Journal saying they were threatened with "immediate termination" if they questioned the 30-day payments.
Deanne Amaden, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Labor in San Francisco, said the only way employees can challenge management's decision is through a lawsuit in U.S. District Court.
"There is no wording for enforcement written into the act," Amaden said. "If the employees feel what is being done wasn't done properly, a judge would have to determine the outcome."
Amaden said Casino MonteLago owners were required to a provide notice of the closure with the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation and with the "chief local official."
Gaming Control Board Chairman Dennis Neilander said the agency had received a notice Feb. 16 of the planned closing. He said it was not clear the company would only pay workers for 30 days.
Patrick Chapin, a Henderson attorney, said he had been retained by three Casino MonteLago employees concerning the matter. He sent a letter last week to Casino MonteLago Chief Executive Officer Johan Finley and is waiting for a response from the company's legal counsel.
Casino MonteLago was small by Las Vegas standards, with 635 slot machines and a dozen table games .
