In 2008 young Max Scherzer came up and showed that he was ready for the big posting a phenomenal 10.61Ks per 9. The league only hit .233 off the 6-3 24 year old right hander as he induced grounders and struck out as a rook. His average FB came in at 94.2 mph but the kid can reach back for 98 when he needs it.

Scherzer tonight gets to face the team that originally drafted him, the STL Cardinals. The Cards took Max on a flier in round 43 many moon ago but the youngster elected to play college ball instead. A few years later he was taken in round 1, by the Diamondbacks, and now the baseball gods have blessed us with this great Tuesday night showdown in Az.

As was the problem last year, Max doesn't seem likely to get a lot of run support. Az only has 24 runs on the year placing them 3rd to last in all of MLB. Chris Carpenter had a great spring and flirted with a no-hitter in his first outing, max will have to maximize anything his offense is able to produce for him this evening.

What do you guys like in this one?

Really like the Cards here. When Carpenter is on, he is a top 3-5 pitcher in the NL. Cards will try to get Scherzer's pitch count up to get him out of the game. The under 9 looks like a gift.

agree with that total, but its hard to trust either pen. maybe ff under seeing as max should be good for 5-6

FF would be a good play too. As bad as the Cards bullpen is, not sure the DBacks offense is good enough to exploit it.
