You really must not bet horses or the dogs very much GYNO.

The rail position is BY far the best post position as long as the horse is even moderate early speed.

You have the rail at the first turn and dont have to run 5 or 6 wide around that lond turn, which of course leads to more workload from the horse.


Also, because the pack is bunched, the leading up to the first turn is where most of the bumps and collisions occur. Many times a horse will get OFF-STRIDE and NEVER regain a winning form during that race. Sometimes injuries occur at the first turn,.

You really must not watch horseracing.....how did that rail horse do in the Derby? BB's connections must not agree with you as they picked the #20 position when both #1 and #2 were available for the Derby. If you watched the Derby/Preakness, you would know that BB's post position doesn't matter for the Belmont!

An example of the first turn 1st post position is better illustrated by the dog races. Middle post of 4-6 is absolutely HORRENDOUS in dog races. All of the bumps and falls usually occur at that first turn. The outer dogs get bumped to the outside of the track at that turn and usually never recover. Check out this example below. Of course 1 and 2 dont always win or place, but they at least usually receive good trips around that crucial first turn.

Just when I think I've seen the dumbest of the dumb.
He didn't choose the rail, IT WAS FORCED UPON HIM. He got last choice, it was the only position left. Amazing how all the trainer's before Dutrow didn't take this coveted spot, but left the dream position for BB. Wow, those other trainer's are sure nice.

Only if he gets out well. Rail post always presents the possibility of getting boxed. But at a mile and a half, they usually crawl the first half. Gives everyone a chance to get into the position they want. BB should be on or near the lead.

I know you did not say that....I used the question to show that the one slot is not all that. I am confused, if you do not think he will be leading at the turn then why are you so jacked he has the one hole. Think about it, if the other horses are out to make him work, does not the rail help that cause?

Only 2 other horses have shown early speed AT ALL.


His main rival Casino Drive and Da'Tara have early speed. They take off from the 5 and 6 post. That was the other reason why I like the post position

Let me add my two cents to this topic tonight. For those unaware, I've been around horses for over 60 years in some form or fashion - this does not make me an expert but feel it warrants a good opinion (if not better). The rail and/or inner post positions for certain tracks, surfaces and distances can mean the world of difference. A great example of this has been the KEE spring meet, prior to the carpet being laid down, if your horse was fortunate enough to draw one of those spots you had a better than average chance of being asked to smile after the race (win and you get a photo in the winner's circle). It did not matter if the horse was 1:9, 12:1, 30:1 or up to 50:1, the horse somehow got there.

In (dirt) sprint racing, races under a mile, post position is more important (generally) than those towards the middle and outward. Why? Obviously, the closer one is to the inner rail, the less distance you have to run (no wide trips). Great example for you, if there were two horses of exact equal ability, skill level, conditioning, etc and one was in the first gate while the other in gate 7, the one in gate 7 is about 20 feet from the inner rail from the get go. If any of 5the horses to his/her left (2-6) have an early speed, it could either force the 7 to match strides (going wide using extra energy) or to drop back and slide over (then needing a "rocket" like move to get into position.

For (dirt) routes, races over a mile the position is not as important but the inner ones are worse than the middle and outer. With being on the rail one runs the risk of being boxed in and/or cut off. Neither is favorable. The other jocks could very easily position themselves to surround you from the start and you're stuck until an opening appears. All the while, you're taking on dirt in the face something BB has yet to experience and being forced to run a race that is not the best option for your horse.

There are many other reasons why being on the rail for this coming race Saturday is not the best thing in the world but, won't list them all as the hockey game is on and I do have an interest in the outcome.

BB has overcome poor post positions in a few races so don't think the 1 hole is bad for him,would have liked to see him on the middle to out.CD gets to much hype and realy dont think he can go the distance.DOC will be there late.The Japanease will bet CD way down and with the quarter crack prob may offer some value on BB wich as a player we know quarter crack is not that big of deal and the works don't bother me because BB worked the morning of the Preakness.

Post 1, if anything, hurts BB's style. BB likes to float out of there and stalk the front runners while racing off their flank on the outside. With post 1, he may be forced to go fast early to establish running position. If he doesn't hustle out of there, he can get shuffled back some.

Most likely its not anything to worry about, but i think the connections would rather have an outside post instead of the rail.
