What it would take to start a NEW Gambling forum in 2008!?

New posters, not the same old posters....these sportsbooks have cut way back on advertising costs, they don't need the Wrigley's, Ego's ,Tuckman's , Doug's, and the like.

To start a new forum from scratch you better have fresh meat to serve or you will be serving it for free.

The question is where do you find new posters that the BJ's CRIS's and Olympics have never served?

There are hundreds of thousands of bettors on the internet who have NEVER even heard of CRIS, betjamaica or for CERTAIN they havent heard of thegreek.com.

All of those names are not easily known by the novice gambler. Almost every gambler goes to sportsbook.com usually as their first out. THOSE are the gamblers that you need to serve. Somehow you need to hold of their email list.

Maybe one could start a forum WITHIN sportsbook.com website. Talk about fresh blood!!!

Exactly, 2003 was the golden era, we may see it again someday but not anytime in the next 12-18 months....which sucks for everyone involved.

I hope it turns back around.

You pretty much nailed it on the head J Man:

1- Fresh meat (because chances are you will have nothing but affiliate deals)
You'd also need the fresh meat to be very square and bet good sums of money.

2- A new forum would have to have very strong financial backing, because you're probably going to operate in the red for a year or two unless you can find a cheap techie and some volunteer Mods.

3- You will need a few "main draws" but how many top notch posters will go to an upstart forum and post for free??

4- The offshore environment itself would have to be better than it is currently. New books will need to open up, the old reliables will have to want to advertise heavily again. There will need to be at least one or two easier options to move money around

You could probably add 5 or 6 more things to this list, but these 4 are the first things that popped into my head

Exactly Ego...it would be next to impossible right now, yes it could 'exist' like an OGD does, but we all see how well that place is doing....how well did their PPV section go over? How much did MW say they're losing right now? Rx cut mod salries and dumped mods, this is no time to do anything but hold the fort and hope the sun comes back out.

Balls and money. As far a starting a profitable gambling forum goes, GL. Unless the US gov't changes it's stance in the near future I don't think you'll see any new sites do well. From what I see, the established sites are not making much money as it is. I guess you could do a site and try to run a sheet off of the referals but that is illegal and I know no one would do that, would they? :rolleyes:
