Question for Vegas Regulars....

Re: Question for Vegas Regulars....

Harrahs gives more comps to slot players, but they have the worst payouts by far so you are pretty much paying for it. Tables are the same. Basically the formula doesn't change no matter where you go in Vegas, expect 30-40% of your expected loss offered to you in comps. If you play pretty big you are going to get whatever you want. If you play medium it makes sense to play at mid or lower level places if you want a free room. If you play small you are basically looking for a free meal and maybe shows so try to keep your action concentrated at properties linked to one card.

Re: Question for Vegas Regulars....

MGM and Harrah's are not the best with comps from what I have heard. WildBill's advice sounds best.

If you could list an idea of what kind of action you are planning to give in Vegas, I am sure some of us on here can give you an idea of the comps at various properties.

Re: Question for Vegas Regulars....

Thanks for your quick replies. I usually stay at Mandalay Bay and usually have had reasonable comps there(I play table games only). However, a couple of months ago(while staying at the MGM Grand), I played at the Rio and I have since received a ton of offers in the mail lately from Harrah's group. Some of the offers seem very good....better than what I have been offered from MGM. I'm even being offered premium rooms at Caesars Palace and I dont think my level of play warrants that kind of comps. I'm trying to figure out if Harrah's offers more in comps in general, or it's just a case of Harrah's trying to entice a possible new customer. I think both groups have equally good hotels and would go with either group if one is more generous than the other.

Sometimes it does not take much play to start getting some good offers in the mail. Staying on the list for those offers can be another story but they probably saw some potential and figure it's worth their time to get you back and see more of your action. I once played at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City for only 3 hours on a day trip and got littered with great offers for a year after that and a player development director from there even sending text messages to my phone occasionally.

If your heading to Vegas anyway, I'd take them up on the offers and see where it goes from there. As for Vegas, I've stayed at the Venetian a few times in the last few years and they've given good enough offers for me to not try anywhere else. But, in general, I think there probably are better offers to be had outside of the Mandalay/MGM/Harrah's groups.

I'm sure you are right....I will go to the Rio in October(3 free nights over a weekend plus a $750 Visa Gift card). Seems like a good offer to me! I'll see how many offers I have left after that trip....lol. :+textinb3

I took the Venetian up on a similar offer back in January. $750 card of your choice - they had Macy's and a few other stores. You just had to play at least 8 hours during the weekend to get it. Also 3 nights in a suite, limo to/from the airport, all meals covered - probably $200-300 worth, fancy snacks sent to the room even when I first showed up, 2 great seats for Phantom right under the chandlier. All that comped and I even came out way ahead at the tables. I think you'll be in for some nice treatment at the Rio if you are getting a similar $750 card offer.

Hmmm...no mention of play minimum on this offer. It's a Visa Gift card, supposedly valid anywhere Visa is accepted. We'll see how it goes.

reload, i still have not been given a freebee to venetian. have gotten to mandalay, new york, ny, mgm, luxor, rio and ceasars. good luck to ya too.

Thanks, WYM....I think the big reason why I am getting all these offers is the Rio spanked me for $4K or so in less than 2 hours when I went there a couple of months ago!

That's nice if no fine print was listed about putting in any minimum time. I've heard the Venetian is known for their fine print on things compared to other places so it would not surprise me.

Those are still a lot of good properties to get freebee's at. At Venetian, I've heard they expect at least a $200 betting average for 4 hours/day for a room. Food/shows and such then depends on your host from there - they might need more action and might not.

Yeah, that was how I got good offers from Venetian to begin with. The first time I played at Venetian, I was staying across the street at Treasure Island with a room I actually paid for instead of being comped. Within a couple of days, the blackjack itch got to me and figured it wasn't worth playing at TI if my room was already paid for. So I played at The Venetian and lost on that day. Within a couple of months, all kinds of great offers showed up and a few months later I flew back and won. Then flew back for that $750 shopping gift card weekend and won again. So it does help for comps if they think you are a "chump" with some losses on that first session.

LOL.....I did the same thing to the TI years ago. Had a nice comped suite there, but did most of my gambling at another casino. TI sent me another offer a few months later for a comped regular room, which I took and did the same thing all over again....lol. Since then, I have not received another offer from TI.

I only ended up at TI because I needed a place on pretty short notice for a trip out there and my travel agent put us there. TI seemed like a decent place - good mid-level value kind of property, food great, etc. but I just couldn't see wanting to build any big gaming history there. At least it's linked in with the Mirage and other MGM properties but I didn't get the same high-roller sort of feel that Venetian had.

I'd say it's not big loss not getting offers from TI anymore. I think you'll enjoy the Rio a lot and it opens up some new comp opportunities with the Harrahs properties. There's definitely barriers that exist to switching property chains and getting yourself noticed at a new place for comps, but if you've already had that first losing trip up front you are all set - that's where you pay your dues. And from there, it's time to take advantage of the new comps and hopefully win that money back in the process.

I agree with you fully. I place a BIG emphasis on nice rooms and nice restaurants, and the TI doesnt quite fit that bill.

Hope to win some of my cash back at the Rio. I even got another offer for free nights at the Palace Tower at Caesars Palace for Jan 2008.....valid for the dates when the porn convention/ CES will be held. I tend to visit Vegas at that time, so that offer is a great one for me....assuming they don't cancel it if I dont bet enough during this trip to the Rio! :+textinb3

Sounds like a nice offer from Caesars also. I would say that both Caesars and the Rio are good properties to consider building a good gaming history with and from there you can see if the offers get any better. Caesars has everything. I doubt they would cancel a comp offered. With the action you gave already, even two stays probably feel paid for to them really.

I hope so....I would love to use that offer during AVN/ CES when rooms are at a premium and cost $400-500 per night!
If they continue to give me good comps, I'd make Caesars Palace my "regular" casino in Vegas.

I finally found my Rewards card number yesterday and singed up online to look at what they had for me. I saw 75 offers in my account, with some offers being valid for several casinos during the same time period.
That $750 Visa gift card offer was the best of the lot, so I took them up on it, although the Rio is not my favorite Harrah's joint.....I would much prefer Caesars Palace.

at mandalay, i received $1,000 house chip to use as a comp. except you had to use the chip in one hand. used it in bj. my usual hand is 100-500, and i have not bet 1000 in one hand. and guess what happened. you got it. i was dealed 11 against a 5 showing. so now i have 2000 on the table. dealer hits to 17and i had a 18. you gets to use the 1000 chip till you loose, which was the next hand.

I did receive the actual card for the $750 Visa offer. I am not sure if you actually have to have the actual certificate to get an offer. It does mention this on their website, but in the FAQs section("Cash, Comps and Coupons"), it also mentions that if there is a "Book It" icon next to the offer, you can redeem that offer online, with no mention of needing an actual certificate.
