1. Is their caving available?
2. Any ideas on best places to room and board? Prefer private hot tub!
3. Are their children activities in the area?
4. Is it a very expensive place to visit?
5. Costs on room and board?
6. Anyone know of special packages (deals) for a family trip?
7. Restaurant availability and cost range?


8. etc, etc, etc...What would I need to do to have the best time and least expensive trip if I chose to take my family to Gatlinburg, TN?

Just got back from that area... PIgeon Forge and Gatlinburg.. It is a Kids paradise... Lots to do ... from Ripleys stuff, to Caving, Go Karts, Lazer tag, Great food, Mountain Trails, Scenery, Shows... you name it those 2 towns have it between them.

I will get with ya.. and it is one of the Most affordable Vacations you can go on. Stay in Pigeon Forge which is only 4-5 miles away on 441 from Gatlinburg and you can cut your Hotels and Meals in Half. Gatlinburg is pretty Pricey, but PF is very affordable and has some nice Cabins, Hotels, Chalets, etc for very affordable Prices..Lots for Adults to do as well in both places.

Got them easily available... Lots of good places to stay...can get cabins from $99 a night that are really nice.. and just a stone's throw from the strip

Been to Gatlinburg quite a bit, live about 3 hours from there......It is definately a tourist trap........There is 1 joint down there I always forget the name of it, but they have the most incredible pancakes.....I know that sounds silly but just something about them is really good.......There is tons to do and I would recommend maybe a fall break trip with the kids......There is no better time to go than fall it is really beautiful......If you are smart you can get out of there for a reasonable price, but like all tourist traps you can fall in and walk away wondering, "what the hell happened."

i agree with everything dirty said..
and the smoky mtn national park is great..
i actually like it better than the rocky mountains!
if you've never been there you should go at least once..
you're daughter would love it!!

I have been to All of these, but that was 25 years ago. Me and the cook need to get away for a nice romantic weekend together. She has never been there.


PS...Katie, do they have swinger clubs where I want to go? TIA.

call the chamber of commerce and have them send you some info..
they usually know about deals also..
it will be more expensive during the summer but it's still not bad at all compared to alot of places..

Pigeon Forge is about half the price of Gatlinburg on Rooms and Cabins... But they are basically the same town..

I have 2 brothers who live there.
IMO opinion it is a redneck haven.
my brother builds chalets/cabins. Smoky Mountains Cabins, Chalets, and Condos S
that pancake place that was mentioned is good.
all the place to eat are chains/drive throughs
outlet malls galore.
a billion kids.
a very pretty setting. gorgeous in fact.
the motels advertise tanning beds and HBO in room. WTF.
this is not a resort type town.
there are no high end hotels.
hampton inn is as good as it gets
the only hampton inn in america with no high spped internet
I was bored to tears and cell service is limited.
not to give mofome a hardon
but if i was going there I'd stay in knoxville
spend the day in pigeon forge/dollywood/gatlinburg
then go bck to knowville-30 minutes
better hotels- the hyatt on the river
better food. civilized.
JMO.

while in gatlingburg area take notice of 3 things
remember I grew up near here.
how many fat people
how many people with no teeth
how many people eating pork rinds.

definately stay in Pigeon Forge, you can ride the trolley around all day if you like........... once in Gatlinburg, park the car and walk everywhere..... everything seems on top of you there (to me)....... ride the chair lift in gatlinburg.......

visit the national park and possibly drive to cherokee nc, about an hour away but i didnt enjoy the casino.......

They are all about as tall as they are wide...pretty much just preference.. Just tell them what you want and convenient into town... If Internet Access is a priority then state so.. as you know the problems I had last year and this year... All of them are nice and usually within 15 minutes tops of anywhere in Gatlinburg or PF... And if Possible get one on a Creek or Stream.... Very relaxing to get in the river or sit by it and build a fire and roast marshmallows or Grill out... Or even do a little Trout fishing....
